Scarcity and Waste Series - Effects of Scarcity of water

One of the greatest challenges we face today is limited resources. Over the years our need for natural resources has doubled and if we continue using up what we have at the current rate, there will be no sustainable future. Competition and conflicts over natural resources are threatening our sustainability.

Resource scarcity is evident the world over. Shortages of rain and water supply in general are challenging our sustainable future. The photographs below explore the effects of water scarcity in Naivasha, Kenya.

Dry kindling ready to be used as firewood. Big trees have severely dried over the years and eventually been chopped down before they become a fire hazard.

Due to lack of water, a crop of beans has dried up while still in the ground.

Maize burnt out with the extreme heat. Dried kernels scavenged by pests in search of food.

A maize cob dried up and withered on the stalks while still in the ground due to harsh heat and lack of rain.
